The Western Provinces during the Republic and Augustus

Конференция «Западные провинции в период Республики и эпоху Августа» состоится в Манчестере 17 ноября 2012 г. Цель мероприятия — предоставить площадку обсуждения исследователями, особенно молодыми, результатов их текущей работы. Под «западными провинциями» понимаются, в данном случае, все территории, на которых действовали римские магистраты. Сборник материалов конференции издавать не планируется, поэтому конференция подойдет для представления тех находящихся в разработке исследований, которые планируется опубликовать в других изданиях. Планируется на каждый доклад предоставить 30 минут и еще столько же — на его обсуждение. Стоимость участия — £6. Заявки (тезисы — 300 слов) принимаются до 31 августа 2012 г.

Вторая конференция по данной теме будет проведена в марте 2013 г. (о чем будет сообщено отдельно).

Papers are sought for the first meeting of the Liverpool-Manchester Workshop on the Western Provinces under the Republic and early Principate, to be held in Manchester on 17th November 2012.

The aim of the workshop is to provide a forum for researchers, especially postgraduate students, to share and discuss their current work. There will be an emphasis on sharing and explaining methodologies and good practice in this formative geographical area and chronological period. We define 'western provinces' broadly to include all territories where Roman magistrates intervened.

There is no intention to publish proceedings from this meeting; projects in progress intended for publication elsewhere are therefore welcome. Generous time will be allowed for discussion (six 30-minute papers, each followed by 30 minutes for discussion). The second workshop will be held in Liverpool in early March 2013, and a fresh call for papers will be circulated in due course.

All participants will be required to make a £6 contribution to cover costs.

Abstracts of c. 300 words should be sent to the organisers by 31st August 2012.
